Here at SOM we always tackle the tough issues, the real concerns, the things that matter most.
Except for when we don't. Today, let's just talk about mustaches!
I always thought I preferred clean-shaved guys. I liked the wholesome look. My knowledge of facial hair while I was growing up consisted of middle-aged cowboys/farmers with handlebar mustaches (welcome to Idaho!) and young, renegade lookin' guys with goatees. Occasionally I saw a beard, but mostly a beard made me think of Santa Claus. Or Paul Bunyan. Or a hermit.
But, when I married a bald guy (which I NEVER thought I would do...Read our awkward dating story here...) I soon realized that in his family full of shiny heads, the vast majority of them had goatees.
But, about a year after we were married, despite my uneasiness, he grew out a goatee.....and I loved it! A bit of facial hair made his normally baby face suddenly look all manly! :) And, as far as the kissing, I really don't mind! :) A little exfoliation is good for the skin, right? Ha! But really, It doesn't bother me once he's past the prickly stage.

Personally, I think he looks pretty foxy either way, but he definitely wears the goatee well. However, I am still adamantly against the beard. (Too old man/homeless person.)
Speaking of facial hair.... you have GOT to see these pics... THEY ARE AMAZING:

Who knew, huh? Maybe Patrick can compete next year! (I'm thinking ringlets for his goat.)
Not that these are crucially important questions for your life or happiness...but, hey, since manly facial hair has become a part of my life, I think it's fun to hear what other ladies think! :)
My husband grows a very nice looking full beard. He just stops shaving for a few weeks. I think he's gonna keep his current beard for awhile... (he usually shaves it off within a month because it gets itchy) Recently he found that brushing it daily with a baby hairbrush keeps the dry skin and ingrown hairs at bay. A fellow beard grower in our ward has been growing one for over a year... It's pretty gnarly. I don't know that he'll go that far but he has grown a few inches before... it kind of gives him an older/distinguished look.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's a good point, a beard can look well-groomed, or really gnarly. The length makes a big difference. Ha...Patrick combs his goatee, too! For some reason it cracks me up!
DeleteWell I'll agree Patrick looks better with one, but Matt looks just plain silly. His grows in patches. I've agreed to a soul patch now and then because it doesn't bug me, but anything else makes him look lazy because it never looks well groomed.
ReplyDeleteHaha...yeah, that's one of the reasons Patrick doesn't ever grow a beard, cause he has patchy spots up his jawline (thank goodness!) so he just keeps with the goatee. Oh yeah, gotta love the soul patch. :)
DeleteLayne always grows a beard out the last month of my pregnancies. I don't love it. I have extremely sensitive skin so just a peck from him makes me get a red rash. But I love him with facial hair. He looks so manly. But as for my face... My face hates it!!
ReplyDeleteLauren! That is a tragic situation! Hmmm...maybe the facial equivalent of a toupee? He could take it off right before you kiss. Hmm...maybe I should patent that! Ha!
DeleteI prefer my husband clean shaven but I can handle one day of stubble. Luckily, his (hopefully) future career in the military makes it so he has to be clean shaven. He has a thick beard though so even when he shaves in the morning he looks like he didn't by the evening.
ReplyDeleteHey that's nice, your preference will be guaranteed! :)
DeleteI think your man pulls off the look pretty well. But I don't think I'll ever go to the side of preferring Angel with facial hair. My Mom likes my Dad to have a beard because otherwise he gets mistaken for being much younger than a father of adult children (he has about the same amount of grey hair as Angel, although my Dad is 16 years older than my husband). :P Angel's significantly older than me anyways so I don't think he needs to look any more mature, haha!
